"KUNG FU" DIRECTOR IN LOCAL VISIT
When the director and the producers for the movie "Kung Fu" arrives in the SAR over the weekend, they will be greeted by reporters as well as aspiring actors who dream of becoming Hollywood's next action superstar. The filmmakers will spend the most part of their short visit in Hong Kong auditioning candidates for the leading male role in their new film.
On the coming Monday (December 17th), the director Max Makowski ("One Last Dance") and his colleagues will hold an open walk-in audition at Pure Fitness located on the 4th floor of Two IFC Mall, Financial Street, Central, Hong Kong. If you are male, aged twenty to thirty-five, a handsome mix of East (Chinese/Asian) meets West (American), and speaks fluent American English, then you should find the time to pay them a visit. This might be the big time break you have been waiting for all your life.
Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures are teaming up to bring the classic seventies television series "Kung Fu" to the movie screen. The original television series was first broadcast on ABC in 1972, and the program producers at one time actually contemplated recruiting the iconic Bruce Lee as its male lead before finally settling for David Carradine for the role of his career. This time around, the movie director and the producers are again turning their eyes to Asia in their quest for the right talent to play the role of a young Asian American monk from China's legendary Shaolin Temple.
The plot of the film is set in late nineteenth century. Kwai Chang Caine (nicknamed Grasshopper for his agility by his elderly mentor) was a Shaolin monk trained in kung fu skills and steeped in Zen Buddhist philosophy. He fled China to escape the assassins sent by the corrupt, oppressive Qing emperor and landed himself in America's Old Wild West. Once there, his journey in search of his long lost half brother Danny led him to rediscover his family history and put him in constant danger, but time and again his Buddhist beliefs and his kung fu skills helped him escape without harm. Until one day, he came across the challenge of his life ...
The film is scheduled for production in Mainland China in the first quarter of 2008. The man the director and the producers are looking for should be strong, athletic and have the right looks. Kung fu skills are not a must although training or experience in martial arts, gymnastics or ballet is a definite plus. If you have what it takes to carry the part, you can drop by on Monday between 8:30 am to 11:00 am, and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Remember to bring along the script for a one-minute English monologue of your own choice, your resume plus recent color photographs of yourself.
