My Parson Russell puppy Skeeter learns to weave with Susan Garrett's 2x2 method. This video shows from the beginning through two sets of poles (4 poles), straight up, with one jump.

I'm extremely happy with how Skeeter has done using this method... especially with her entries at this time. You'll see a good example of her entries at the end of the video when Skeeter is weaving four poles from one jump.

This video is not intended to be an instruction on how to teach Garrett's method. It's just a record of Skeeter's experience with this method.

I'll be videotaping Skeeter as we go forward with this method.

If you've been thinking about buying Garrett's DVD, do it. It's worth every penny.

  • GREAT! One question hoping to save the DVD money, but when you first start with two poles, how do you reward without enforcing a right shoulder? Like at 0:25, isn't that right shoulder? xxx

  • @Ella4Blu I'm not quite sure what you're asking me. Can you elaborate on what your "right shoulder" concern is and I'll see if I can help? At this stage of the training, you want the dog to go through the first two poles, and then you reward down the "reinforcement line." And then you maintain tha reinforcement line throughout the 2x2 training. If you don't have the DVD, you should get it. It's excellent and goes through the process in great detail. I can't recommend it more highly.

  • I meant to rate 5 stars, oops!

great job with her! I want to try channel and/or WAM weaves with my dog. What method did you use before 2X2? Maybe I'll have to save money for 2X2 DVD.

One more question: do you have to buy 2X2 weave poles too?

  • I taught Forrest on channels. He's a pretty good weaver now, but it took some time to get him here. I also don't think his entries are as strong as they could be. I'm thinking about re-training him on 2x2s.

For 2x2's you need poles that are in sections of 2. You could buy them, you could even make them out of pvc if you're creative. I borrowed the set I'm using from a friend. But then I borrowed the channels I used from a friend as well.

  • Skeeter is looking fantastic. I am so missing agility its now been one whole year since I have not been able to compete at agility because of my knee. Keep up your great training.

  • I hope you can get back to agility. It is so much fun.
