I noticed that no one had lyrics for this song on YouTube, so I set to work--the first time I've made a lyrics vid. I hope it wasn't too off.
Also, no copyright infringement intended! I'm sorry! I own nothing in this video!

----Lyrics

Through the back window
Of our '59 wagon,
I watched my best friend Jamie
Slippin' further away.
I kept on waving
'till I couldn't see her,
And through my tears
I asked again why we couldn't stay

Mama whispered softly,
"Time will ease your pain.
Life's about changing;
Nothing ever stays the same."

And she said,
"How can I help you
To say goodbye?
It's okay to hurt,
And it's okay to cry.
Come, let me hold you ,
And I will try.
How can I help you
To say goodbye?"

I sat on our bed;
He packed his suitcase.
I held a picture
Of our wedding day.
His hands were trembling;
We both were crying.
He kissed me gently
And then he quickly walked away.

I called up Mama,
she said, "Time will ease your pain.
Life's about changing;
Nothing ever stays the same."

And she said,
"How can I help you
To say goodbye?
It's okay to hurt,
And it's okay to cry.
Come, let me hold you
And I will try.
How can I help you
To say goodbye?"

[*Instrumental*]

Sitting with Mama,
Alone in her bedroom,
She opened her eyes,
And then squeezed my hand.
She said, "I have to go now,
My time here is over."
And with her final word,
She tried to help me understand.

Mama whispered softly,
"Time will ease your pain.
Life's about changing;
Nothing ever stays the same."

And she said,
"How can I help you
To say goodbye?
It's okay to hurt,
And it's okay to cry.
Come, let me hold you
And I will try.
How can I help you
To say goodbye?"

  • My great aunt just died, and she's been like a grandma to me for the past 8 years since her sister my actual grandma died and probally before that, and she's been a second mom to my mom. this song expresses just what we need to hear now. thank you for posting it really helped me and my mom

  • @BlueEyedAngel2129

    I'm sorry for your loss. I wish the best for your family, and you're welcome. The song is beautiful, and makes me thankful to have my own mother by my side, although I don't always show my appreciation. It kinda changes your perspective on things, no?

    As said, I wish the best for your family, that you may soon get through these hard times. <3
