I'm pretty sure these guys were smoking opium. At the top of every column is the poppy in Egypt. Mark Anthony and Alexander were partying down there with Cleopatra at the end of dynastic period. White powder gold is not what the alchemists were making. Take one dose of the real elixir and you will never care about ORMUS and or Laurence Gardner's theories ever again. I suspect the entire white powder gold thing was introduced now because they knew people would start having access to a great number of alchemy texts, and soon everyone would be making the real Elixir of Life.
