@supersonic3177 They are taking care of what you yankee pussies can't handle in Afghanistan, as they did in Korea and both world wars.

@hewittdj1 The Vandoos also have a battalion in Valcartier

@EliT3man no.

how many Paratroopers do we have
yes i know the CAR was disbanded but we still have airborne units
-
@hewittdj1 I believe it was in '94. And the 'incident' was in my understanding two individuals that killed a hostage during interrogation. You are also right however in saying it was a political thing. The Prime Minister at the time only lasted 4 months, and it was because of massive budget cuts in the Canadian Forces. That incident was what brought the CAR to the spotlight in my belief.

@hewittdj1 This is of interest to me because there is no listing for any kind of airborne regiment and I think it's something I would want to do if I joined the CF

Is it required to be able to parachute if your in the Canadian military.

"months of training"? Yet, in the army cadet program, it's a few weeks long. then again, I suppose that's just basic.
I have three years to go, and I might be doing exactly this. Living the dream, I hope.

Wat happened to the airborne in the 90s? Why was it disbanded?
Does the CF still have an airborne regiment? I heard it was dissbanded or something but I dunno.

@fightingBRITISH What you heard of was probably thinking of was the Canadian Airborne Regiment which yes, was disbanded, after being 'disgraced' in Somalia way back in the 90's I believe. They were accused of some things during a mission, and were disbanded, probably more political than anything. We still have airborne battalions but no specific 'regiment'. Right now the RCR, 3rd batt, and a batt from the PPCLI out west have 'airborne' battalions. PPCLI out west and RCR in petawawa

@fightingBRITISH Also, the old Canadian Aribrone Regiment was also more of a 'special forces' group then an airborne regiment. At the time they were our 'special forces/rapid deployment' unit. now we have JTF-2 aswell as CSOR, Canadian Special Operations Regiment
