GFD was dispatched to a reported vacant house fire at 1051 East 35th Court just after 5am on 06-14-09, Engine 12 being first on scene reported a working fire. A line was pulled and a quick knock was made before any other crews arrived. Nobody was hurt at the fire scene and crews remained on scene for about a half an hour

  • I understand there are a lot of vacant houses in Gary but why? It's hard to process why there would be so many vacant structures.

You have the city that never sleeps, and then you have Gary, the city that never stops burning...

  • A large factor in the cities decline is the loss of the steel mills and of course the huge tax increase about 3 years ago. People who were paying 500-600 dollars a year in taxes got a triple increase in one year. It also doesn't help that Gary was the murder capital of the U.S. for like 4 years straight

  • great job but i dont get why they start if their vacant? Arson?

  • Usually they are ruled arson, this one for me is a hard call. The fire was isolated near the power to the house from the pole and looked to be mostly exterior. This one may have been accidental, but I honestly don't know

  • Another vacant house Ed? Tjose guys kick ass for sure. Pratice makes damn near perfect.

  • I am guessing 90% of the fires I go to are in vacant buildings. I guess it's better than seeing people lose all their things. Ho Hum

  • @italianjoey774 Looks to me like the fire was mostly on the exterior, notice how even the attic darkened down when he hit the fire on the siding? Obviously having not been there, I can't say for sure, but this looks like one of those outside- in fires.

  • Triple load on that pre-connect works wonders, good job.

  • I think they were lucky, they should have gone through the back door and pushed the fire out the front. it seems like every fire video i see there are mistakes from these guys.

  • great job.. just one thing.. why is there a guy all packed up ready to go flaking out the hose... They guy that just had bunker gear on should of been doing that.. packed guy should of been backing the interior guy.. just my 2 cents

  • Boom....yardbreather....caught you

  • i love the color scheme on the rigs.

  • ive watched a couple of your guy's videos on here and im impressed... you guys are a top notch dept
