The sequel to Shea Butter: From Tree to Nuts

Created for Malian National Television, this video teaches rural Malian women how to make improved shea butter. (Local production techniques result in a shea butter that cannot be exported. New techniques and the formation of cooperatives allow women to export their butter for a profit). The production was shot in a rural village in Mali, West Africa. One woman teaches another how to improve her practices in order to make export-quality shea butter.

To see how the nuts are gathered and processed before making the shea butter, see the prequel video, "Shea: From Tree to Nuts"

The video has been aired on ORTM, the national TV station, and used in training events in Mali. The women in this video, Minata and Afu, are part of a new cooperative that is now selling their shea butter for a profit.
In Bambara with English subtitles.

  • This was a very informative video...like some of my other YouTtubers no complaints about the price and respect to the sisters who put in the labor.

  • Very interesting! I won't complain about the price of raw shea butter anymore! :)

  • Very informative.. It has a Caucasian Imfomercial flavor that kinda takes away its authenticity.

  • ...and here in America, we wanna complain about lil shit when they really have to wotk hard to make products and spoil our lazzy butts

  • Now I have a new appreciation for imported shea butter and the intensive labor put into making the product.

  • great job indeed!, may Allah bless you sister ..

    greetings from Somalia :) ...

  • wow ! the next time i wont say a word about the price

  • @CraftFamilyMO, Shea butter is called shea butter because it is made from shea nuts (the tree is called Butyrospermum parkii). See my accompanying video "Shea: From Tree to Nuts" that shows the first half of this process - how the nuts are gathered and dried. Shea trees grow in a band across West Africa, as well as in parts of East Africa. If you made butter from Macadamia nuts, you would have macadamia butter.

  • this was AMAZING to watch...right from the beginning straight to the very end......it was so informative and highly interesting...I LOVE to see how other cultures are practiced, Love ,Love, Love it. Now I know the REAL colour shea butter is supposed to be...seeing is believing and I just watched an excellent 9 almost 10 minute video explaining the important process of how shea butter is made and saw it with my own eyes....IVORY COLOURED is the real deal. That's what it looks like when its done.

  • I love the way they are so thankful. Thanking Allah and then constantly saying positive blessing things "May we have a peaceful night" What a great spirit these people have. I've watched this before but I love watching it over and over again. Reminds me what is important in life.
