Only in Eastern Kentucky Would You Find This!

A friend and I were driving along a rural road in eastern Ky when I stumbled upon a couple interesting finds.

First, I noticed that one of the locals had spray painted (or tried to) "Have a Great Day" onto one of the concrete bridge pillars near my car. How do you possibly misspell the word "great"? Someone apparently did. Instead, it reads "Have a GERAT DAY."

Next, I discovered that nearby someone had dumped the rotting carcasses of a several dead and severely decomposed fish next to the road. I am guessing that they were caught in the nearby Ohio River, judging by their size. Somehow, they ended up here along the side of this old abandoned road, but not before they were nearly entirely decomposed, and full of thousands of crawling maggots.

The maggots were everywhere, and there were literally thousands of them. It was in the mid 90's outside when I was recording this, and the fact that there were all these disgusting maggots all over the place in this heat indicated that these dead fish hadn't been here long, or all the maggots would have long ago dried up in the heat.

Fish, anyone? Or have you all lost your appetite?

My friend, meanwhile, was trying to get a shoe unstuck which had somehow gotten stuck in the mud.

Ohio sucks, the whole state is bland and tasteless. Also, what you filmed and watched is called decomposition. It is a part of nature. You wouldn't have looked like a fool for posting it, if you hadn't slept through Biology class.

@Oscgren8de- You just looked like a fool yourself. Decomposition itself is a multi-stage process. The introduction of maggots in to non-living organic matter is a process WITHIN the decomposition process. Decomposition itself involves far more than maggots simply eating dead tissue. Have YOU slept through biology class???

It's hardly "possibible" that whoever wrote that was spelling it phonetically. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the majority of people in Eastern Kentucky pronounce the word as it's meant to be pronounced.

I really like this video. I really respect it. One of my favourite features is the vocal silence; just the natural noises. The tranquility of the place. And the stories that exist. "Have a GERAT Day". Who wrote it? When and why did they write it? Who dumped the fish? Why? All these unanswered questions, just peaceful confusion. It reminds me of those games where you have to escape from a room. So many strange and subtle clues.
