Barium chromate precipitates from the alkaline dichromate solution.

  • Actually, the addition of NaOH to the dichromate solution reduces it to chromate. That explains the precipitation of Barium Chromate.

  • Okay. Addition of the NaOH into the dichromate solution will make that solution turn yellow. The concentration of the dichromate decreases. Then addition of the Barium ion will form a BaCrO4 precipitate. Therefore the equilibrium shifts to the right.
