In this Gestalt Therapy video clip, renowned therapist and teacher Erving Polster artfully and adeptly works with Gerald: bright, cynical, emotionally detached, overly-intellectual, and determined to defeat this therapist as he has previous ones. We watch Polster engage him in here-and-now interactions, matching wits, and challenging his defenses with a delicate balance of confrontation and empathy.

  • lol total bullshit & manipulation this is kinda so degrading for the already degraded patient...

    Love,

    your granddaughter

    ANNA POLSTER.

  • Psycho--therapymagazine (an online mag found in the search engine) cleared all my questions up - without doubt a superior project and I highly recomend you all to look it up - it covers all topics of psycotherapy/cases/pointers/everything really.

  • @uneedtherapy42 Well that makes sense. I apologize for being harsh.

  • @MrGrevy I tend not to want to get into you tube comment wars but your comment made me think and want to reply. Mostly my comment was an act of catharsis upon seeing a video like this and remembering the struggles I had with severally mentally ill and personality disordered clients. Your comment shows you must be a therapist and a very seasoned one at that if you understand the complexity of the field BUT if not go screw yourself and your assumptions about my career and decision.... good day.

  • @AnotherCompartment What makes you say that?

  • @uneedtherapy42 Sounds like you were a horrible therapist and will not be missed. Thank god you are not out there damaging clients any more. Disgraceful.

  • god this brings up some memories of the years I worked as a therapist... I was not patient like this guy... when clients wanted to leave I got the door for them. Being a therapist to me is so much a personality type more than just education. You can have read every book but that will not get you through. Tough career! god bless people who do this... maybe I gave it up to soon (only did it for a few years) but man did people drive me nuts!! I think about it but I don't miss it...

  • two manipulative bullshitters.

  • I spent over 10 years trying to outwit my Jungian analyst. Plenty of "transference". Pointless & very expensive. I never realised that deep down I didn't really want to change (she should have seen that & told me, but I made it difficult for her...). Medication turned all that round. I've been much happier & more functional since stopping analysis. You need to seriously examine your goals before embarking on it.
