Actually, it's bronze, which is the low cost substitute for gold. But it sure adds a nice warm touch to the cab, and it's too bad that today's elevators rarely use bronze. But even if it's cheaper than gold, it's more expensive than stainless steel.

The original elevators were Otis traction elevators from 1886, and then they were replaced by Montgomery, because of the buttons in 1986. So, the original elevators were 100 years old, which is amazing.
