The key question is this: is inequality of income *itself* unjust, or does it depend on how the inequality comes about? Is it unjust that someone like Sergey Brin makes much more money than us, given that made that money by giving the world Google?

  • There are a lot of issues raised in this video. One, raised by Professor Manion, is the way in which recent policies such as TARP have used the power of the state to transfer wealth from the many to the few, from the poor to the wealthy. I think there is a good deal of consensus across the political spectrum that policies like this are unjust. In fact, I think it's just that sort of issue that motivated many Tea Party participants.
