The Spirit of Traverse City is a 1:4 scale 15" narrow gauge steam engine. It is modeled after an Atlantic type steam locomotive. It operates May-August in Traverse City, MI at Clinch Park on the west arm of Grand Traverse Bay. The track is a single loop 0.45 miles long.

  • How could anyone dislike this video? The only thing I dislike is that I don't have one of these in my backyard!

  • My dad and I led the complete rebuild of the locomotive and cars and she has been running great since 2005.

I have been told that the dept of parks and rec is in charge of the train and they make the decisions about it, yet I know for a fact that they did not decide to remove it from Clinch Park. The Bay Front Planning committee decided it did not fit their idea of a multi-generational park and have not said why they think that.

The Traverse City politics have killed the train.

  • This is the last year for the train. The Bay Front Planning committee removed the train from the Clinch Park plans (construction will start this fall) with little or no discussion according to commissioner Jim Carruthers and Gary Howe. No one else on the Bay Front (T. Michael Jackson, Jennifer Jaffee, Nate Elkins, Michael Borer, Rick Shimmel and Russ Soyring) have responded to inquiries about the train.

  • and i thought my trains were big

  • wow that poped in the vi fast!

  • nice whistle

  • I remember reading about the rebuilding and installation of this train in Live Steam Magazine years ago, it is nice to see it still running strong. Great whistle by the way.

  • Nice speed. You are doing about 16 mph on the bottom and around 3 mph by the camera
