Whooping cough epidemic reignites immunisation debate

Three babies have died from whooping cough this year and close to nineteen thousand cases have been reported. Doctors now fear figures could worsen if parents decide not to immunise their children. However, the Australian Vaccination Network say the inoculations are dangerous.

what is sad is that babies are at risk because people are getting vaccinated. those who get the vaccine shed the disease, and can then give it to babies who have a hard time with it. Homeopathy helps a lot, not getting vaccines keeps your immune system so you can naturally gain life long immunity. the chemicals in vaccines actually lower your immune system so that you end up more suceptable to the disease you are fighting against.....

i actually dont know which way to go with this. especially when some things the anti vaccination people say are proven to be false.

i have vaccinated my children, but i am never sure if i did the right thing. i feel as though my daughter is far more hyper, and far less attentive than she used to be before the vaccine. however it could have coincidently have happened at the same time as her reaching that age

Your reply, while using made-up math, sort of makes the case for vaccines. One in 600 infected, and one in 600 dying is still one in 360,000 dying from the disease, which is more than triple the one in a million figure. And the one in a million figure itself is from *the people who were vaccinated*.

When you boil down the numbers, the only reason the anti-vaccine movement continues to exist is that most people cannot do math. It's that simple.

the statistics are a bit of a trick if u think about it. 1 in lets say a million die from immunisations Y, and lets say 1 in 600 die from desease X. 1 in 600 INFECTED - we dont go around giving everyone desease X and thechance of of catching the desease and dying from it will give a much different statistic
