In 2004 Harry and I were commissioned to film a conference by a family friend. It was the usual standard project, nothing new. What we didn't expect, and were lucky enough to capture on film, was a man standing on his own eating nibbles and savoury snacks in a desperate attempt to look involved.
Here is a rare snapshot of the unending isolation of Humanity, slowed down and set to some really sad music.

  • I've done actual jokes in other videos, jumped off sheds, dripped tears of genuine unrest, introduced callbacks that can be re-used to add depth to the story, danced with abandon to PJandDuncan, skidded and scabbed through feats of physical displays, given up hours of time and lengths of tape, I've hit F5 in the dead of night for signs of a rise in viewcount that will settle the drumming of my heart and ego, and yet the most commented-on video is this one, a clip of a man eating a sausage roll.

  • I now feel like going out and committing suicide.

  • This is highly depressing. It reflects the inner loneliness that we all face. The crippiling doubt that weighs us down like so many chains and bondages. That or I don't konow what in the hell I am talking about. I am stoned, you know.

  • @dougsklenki Thank you for that comment. Sorry for making you answer these silly questions. Personally I think it is true. And I found it funny. Its just my mind is melting a bit because a person I know disagrees with my opinion/perception of it. Although to be fair on her she went into this film cold, not knowing your comedic background and things like that. ok sorryyy

  • @roryphelan No, I'm asking can't truth be expressed through the fiction of a character? If you're asking if the video description is meant to be humourous, then yes, it obviously is. It's a deliberately pretentious summary of a man eating a sausage roll. Is it truthful? Perhaps. Am I suggesting that this video is just as legitimate an exploration of the human condition as any florid poem or heavily plotted drama? Perhaps. You take what you want from it.

  • @dougsklenki So it is true, is what you're saying?

  • @roryphelan Why are these 2 distinguishable? Can't truth be expressed and defined through humour?

  • This video, along with the video descriptor, is one of the best videos on youtube.

  • @dougsklenki Dear Mr. Sklenki,

Do you think there is truth in what you say in the video descriptor,

or is it the neurotic delusions of the character you are inhabbiting as a comedian (as in - it is just for humour?)?

  • @dougsklenki Sorry Mr. Sklenki.

  • @roryphelan Why did you remove your comment? It was lovely.
