great advice ive had plenty of days where i stay up late or go out the night before and ill be hurting the next day. good thing my partner can cover for me, but its not the same you know..

The lead is a standard IEC Cable, thick or thin, it depends on the fuse that is in the plug, and depth.
But, that cable is plenty thick enough for a standard halegon fixture.

Apparently not, as it melted, and it's twin did too, or was starting to when I unplugged it....LOL. The fuse is not the issue, as the fuse is rated to handle the current the fixture pulls, the cable was not, and that was the problem. The fixture was fine, as the thicker cable I replaced it with did just fine, and ran the rest of the night without issue. By the way, I am an electronics repair technician for the last 10 years, so I have a clue.

I have a 2 X Halegon fixtures, and have used different extension leads before, no problems as yet.

That would be because you had the right guage wire in your extensions, obviously.
