Why do we need a credit report to get a job?

This is my question about the need for a credit report to get a job. When did it become a law you must have this before you can get a job. My thought is that this is just one way to lower your pay.

Thanks for your information but, I ask the ACLU about this as it sets up poor people or those who do not met the great credit you hear about. Fact is that 80% of the people have had some kind of credit problems. So to have information about my past and my medical bills is something that is not needed. P.S. the ACLU

The ACLU did not want to look at this because they feel it is not their problem. Yet it would reflect only on the poorest in this country. So what is fair about this.

If the credit report ever becomes mandated by law, then the ACLU will indeed become concerned.

I read an article where corporations are interested in studying the physiological makeups of those just entering the work force to see what diseases they are most susceptible to in later years. There is no need to tell you how scary this is.

Thanks again but the problem is that it is not mandated by law it is part of a criminal back ground form. So if you refuse to complete the form then no job. So there is no law for it but, there is no protection to stop it. With your diseases again I can see who you owe money to and medical cost. information they should not have or need.

The problem is that every time we actually let an employer a look at our Credit report we compound the problem ourselves.

What's wrong with saying "That's none of your business" and walking out the door to find an employer that you can have a solid working relationship with based on your skills and abilities and what they can offer you? As well as mutual respect.

Who in their right mind would authorize someone they dont know to have access to their private information?

I have 0 credit because i never had it & don't want it, it is my God given a RIGHT!. I refuse to be held hostage by creditors so all my life I have always spent cash (Something people don't haven't seen in years). I cannot get a job because of lack of Education (Can't afford it) and because I have NO credit. I am 40 and live on Disability because of it. What a wonderful Country the Fuckin' USA is.

IT is against the law,credit report,background check,and mode of living their all one happy family look whats going on there is no need to run a credit check so you cant go bankrupt if you have no job no chapter 13 now you have to wait 8 years to file chapter 7 please DO NOT TAKE CREDIT CARDS THEY ARE PUTTING PEOPLE IN DEBT

@Suziq1231 -ABSOULUTELY! - Not only it is downright un american, it is purely illegal. The people who you owe has nothing to do with your ability to do with the job that you are applying for. Employers should not have access to such information because it is none of their business. Check should be limited to work history, and criminal records etc. Such checks should be banned by our govt. because it is unconstitutional. @BeatBuddy This is excellent information. The bill that must be passed is HR 3149. I've sent several emails and letters to the President concerning this illegal activity being conducted by US corporations. The unemployment rate is going to continue to rise if this credit check bull crap doesn't stop! The right people hasn't been impacted yet but the way the economy is going it just a matter of time before A credit citizens are affected.

I have actually emailed my representatives about making this illegal. No response. (unless you're applying for banker or accountant). Obviously lawmakers don't feel it's important. But over 3,000 people have watched this video and that makes me feel hope. BTW I defaulted on a BUSINESS loan. That's right I was trying to make money, not buying clothes and things right and left. I had a business loan because I believed in myself.

Um...... How is this not illegal?? So lets assume I got laid off my job after graduating college, as a result I defaulted on my student loans, so here I am with no criminal record, a legitimate reason for my credit, but I cant get a JOB!? The whole reason FOR the job is to FIX the credit?
