Once again the Bill Mack Show and Marty's gift for impersonation shines through as he does Gabby Hayes, Walter Brennan and Johnnie Ray. Johnnie of course, had a big hit in the 50's with Marty's 'You Don't Owe Me A Thing' and it was also a hit in the UK. Johnnie was a megastar in the 50's having several big hits, but as with many others his career slumped with the advent of Rock 'n Roll and the arrival of a certain ex-Memphis truckdriver. Ironic, when you think how Elvis was obviously influenced by Johnnie's frenetic vocal approach and abandoned stage performance.
Once again we see yet another facet of Marty's considerable talents. There was never a better singer EVER in the Country field or Pop field for that matter and for sheer all round talent he puts many of Popular music's better know vocalists to shame. So endeth the lesson for today.

  • What a nice surprise, hearing this . Doesn't it make you feel good when you hear people having such fun and laughing. I always have to laugh along . Nice to know Marty shares the same Johnnie Ray favourite as me, ' Please Mr Sun' thank you Tarquin.

  • Thanks Juejar, although you never actually said if you like his impersonations of Gabby or Johnnie!

  • That was on Bill Mack,s MIdnight Trucking so on WBAP out of Ft Worth. I juat loved it when Marty would come to town and go on live with Bill they called it a Marty Party which was very appropriate. Thanks for the Music. Bill

  • Anyone know what year approx. this was? Looks like the early 70's? I forgot how much I missed old Gabby Hays, Marty, and Johnny.

  • not only a talented singer and artist but he had a gift for mmimcry as well. loved this thanks tarquin.

  • I liked them both Tarquin, although he wasn't so hot on Johnnie, think he went into the Ink Spots a bit, but what fun to listen to.
