You can use lead shot to make this method of slinky making easier. The shot comes in sizes that range .169 to .250; these are the best ranges for weight. Lead shot is found in almost all sporting goods stores and is cheap buying them in bulk. Timothy Kusherets (Author/Editor)

Great video! I use a candle so I can have my hand free to crimp. When I use to live in Oregon Gi Joes carried all my salmon and steelhead supplies. Now that they are gone I have yet to check out Dicks while visiting but I have a feeling they don't carry shot or chord.

@yenghawj THERES THIS POLYESTER STUFF AT MOST CRAFT STORES YOU BUY BY THE YARD FOR REALLY CHEAP AND I LIKE IT BETTER THAT THE PARACORD. ITS KINDA LIKE THOS ROUND HOLLOW SHOELACES. BUT IS LIKE 2 BUCKS A YARD OR SOMETHING

where do you get your parachute cord? i went to cabelas and found some but they are really thin! probably could only fit BB split shots in em..

awesome video man hell ya now im gonna be making these all the time. i saw the parachute cord for them at the tackle shop the other day and wondered how i could make my own. thank you!
hey just a question but i weighed out some split shots they are only 1 gram per split shot. do you use led shot like double 00 buck or something heavy? because i have to put 7 splitshot in a slinky for a quarter ounce, and i usually need a half ounce... ends up being waaaaay too long

I normally use the larger buck shot so you dont have to use as much, but when you are fishing low, clear water it might be good to use the smaller diameter like you are.
