Quique Somenzini Yak 54, 69" wingspan, 26cc MVVS (EVO) gas engine, 18x8 miejlik propeller, Hitec 5985 all around, lipo all around, 4.3kg RTF. By far the most powerfull plane i have, power to weight wise. Third flight. I left the original sound for you to hear the engine ROAR.
The plane is absolutely STOCK no extra reinforcements were added except two carbon rods to support the new (smaller) gas tank and the ignition. The balance is a bit aft but the overall performance is great even so.

  • hi klinb,I have just got one of these yaks and i am also going to fit a 26cc gasser in it.Did you do anything to the engine mounting box to beef it up?

Everywhere i read about this they say not to fit a 26cc to it because of vibration.I am doing it anyway but if you did strengthen the engine mount please let me know what you did. Thanks

  • @konceppt yes you have to reinforce the motorbox. I added some balsa corners on the inside with a slow curing epoxy as well 2 carbon counterforts on the outside of the motor box as you can see in this image: imagebin.ca/img/a2wO_Nc.jpg

  • i think the motor you have on there is overkill. all you really would need is a YS 110S.

that plane flies perfectly with that motor in it

  • yeh, but i wanted a gas engine on it. i hate glow's messiness. This engine is indeed overkill but only with this carbon prop, check my other vides where i changed the prop to wood and its less jumpy

  • Where exactly is the C of G on this flight? I am working my one backwards from the original trim but if you could tell me how far back your is, I would save a bit of time.

    Cheers from Australia.

  • Not sure exactly where it is (its been a while since i built this bird, but i wouldnt say its too far from the one that the manual specified. I'm waiting for the summer (or warmer days) and i'll get to the flying field with her, once i do that i'll check the cg again and let you know. Thanks for commenting.

  • What kind of motor mount is that in the pic?

I am slightly concerned that the choke butterfly may hit the firewall when opened so i was considering using standoffs or moving the fuel tank back and opening up the firewall a bit more?

do you have any closer/clearer pics of your motorbox strengthening?

    Thanks

    Ben

  • the cg should be how it should be.

  • 26cc MVVS (EVO) gas engine

  • What engine? Gas or glow w/ pitts? Nice flying!
