http://www.euronews.net/ Floodwaters have inundated one of Thailand's most popular tourist destinations.

The 400-year-old Chai Wattanaram temple is one of the places cut off in the ancient city of Ayutthaya, a UNESCO world heritage site.

Deputy Governor of Ayutthaya, Narong Onsaard, said: "The situation is very severe because in previous years we were able to handle it. But the situation now is worse than in the past. We didn't expect the very strong currents that damaged the embankment. We've tried our best, because this is an ancient site as well as a world heritage site."

  • Love Thailand. You have my heart, my prayers, from America I am coming in January If I have to stay longer to help in anyway I will. Whatever it takes I love these people they have won my heart years ago and I am not turning away. This is a true promise. And whatever it takes the rest of us will help see through that. I will see what can be done with different groups here in the U.S.

  • Oh no! This is extremely tragic. I see an influx of malaria and other medical issues in the near future. I will keep the Thai people in my prayers!
