***** FAQ *****
Q. Why do you jump straight up and not forward? Some other videos told me to jump forward.
A. Well have you ever jumped whilst you were on a moving bus or train, and noticed that you don't fly to the back of the vehicle? Well a skateboard is exactly the same. You are literally thrown forward by the speed as you jump, which is why I said to not go too slow because you need a bit of speed to throw you forward.
***** Troubleshooting *****
Q. I am doing an ollie, but I am only landing it with my front foot.
A. The harder you pop, the more vertical you need to slide your front foot. Make sure that you pop hard and slide vertically because you are possibly kicking the board away because you're not sliding your foot vertically enough. What also may be the problem, is that you're leaning back. Move your body so it's almost in line with your front leg.
Q. When I attempt to ollie, my board goes behined me.
A. Don't slouch and keep your back straight. When you bend down to pop, bend down as if you're teabagging your skateboard. When you slouch, you push the board behined you when you pop.
Q. I try to ollie, but I just end up kicking the board away.
A. You are most possibly scared of doing the ollie and falling. I suggest that you just practice popping whilst moving first. When you are used to that, all you need to do is jump in the air and slide your foot vertically at the same time.
Q. I am popping and sliding my foot up, but I am not going up in the air.
A. JUMP! A lot of people always forget to jump. If you don't jump, then your board doesn't have room to go up in the air. So get your butt outside and try again :D
Q. I put all my strength and effort into my ollies, but I can't get them high. How can I do this?
A. Firstly, make sure that you're bringing your knees up to as high as they can go. If you want a bit more height, swing your arms up into the air. If that doesn't work, try ollieing up onto curbs or over decks.
Q. I am doing EVERYTHING you have said, but I still can't ollie. Why?
A. It is rare that this is the case, but it might be your skateboard or skateshoes. With me, it was just a matter of changing my thin socks into thick socks. Although the bestest bit of advice I can ever give you is to NOT GIVE UP!
