August is THE month to see hummingbirds in Sedona! There are numerous locations with 800+ hummers a day, based on nectar consumption, during this period when thousands of migrants join those already here from the nesting period. This year Kathy has the most, with 1,000-1,500 per day. In this video, note how the feeder starts out with no hummers (shy about my placing the camera there) to over a dozen before the end of the first minute. You can see Anna's, Black-chinned, and Rufous Hummingbirds readily, with an occasional Calliope and/or Broad-tailed Hummingbird. Sites like this make it easy to understand why the Hummingbird Society decided to hold its first Sedona Hummingbird Festival in August (2012).
