USC School of Social Work filmmaker Milton Island is informing the youth about Proposition 21, a devastating law that has many teens serving life sentences due to gang enhancement penalties. As adults make these laws, it becomes the responsibility of these same adults to inform the youth about the laws that adversely affect them. It is unfortunate that the only time most teens here about these laws are not in class rooms or through the media, but only after they are facing a judge and a long prison term. It can be argued that the injustice is not in the law itself, it is in the hidden agenda of the law. It is our responsibility as social workers to help correct injustice in whatever form it is manifested.
