Overnight packrafting trip on the Grensmaas (Belgian/Dutch border). Discharge at Maaseik: 35-45m³/s. Distance covered: 37km in 8h30. Denivellation: 17m (0,45m/km).

The Grensmaas contains some PR2 up to PR2-3 rapids, some of which become shallow rock gardens at low discharge (I crash into a boulder at 2:05) with long flatwater sections in between. The river becomes easier with higher discharge as most rapids flatten out and the risk of hitting boulders deminishes. Boilers in outer bends might become nasty at very high winter discharge (+250m³/s).

It was my first trip on a river with this kind of rapids, and the first time I filmed - next time I'll center the camera a little lower.
