Then-National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger and President Richard Nixon initially discuss General Creighton Abrams' comment that U.S. forces might invade Laos again, and what the official response from the administration should be. They then discuss their China strategy and press reaction to the announcement of Nixon's China initiative. Kissinger privately (unlike some of his more public posturing) gives Nixon all the credit for this diplomatic coup. They also discuss a memo about bettering relations with China that Nixon sent to Kissinger ten days after he entered office.
