I saw Solveig and the Band in Belfast at the Black Box last weekend. I don't think I'd ever heard the original Tom Waits track so her rendition seemed just about perfect to me. She has a wonderful tone and sang beautifully for the whole set.
As she sang this solo the rest of the band sat cross-legged amongst their equipment. You could have heard a pin drop in the room. A magical moment that I'll cherish for a long time. Thanks for sharing the video

This is just boring. No emotion. Thats the problem with singing other peoples songs, you can never feel what they feel and express how they express. Tom Waits songs should be left alone!!!

very pretty, and she made it her own ... but for me, but doesn't compare to the original. Im glad I got to hear it... but... always the original will be my favorite.

i normally only get 30 seconds through a waits cover before having to go and listen to the original. but this was so beautiful i stayed to the end. a fantastic performance - what a voice, and such expression too

I disagree with several comments. I think this is a beautiful, unique, and touching version by Solveig who is an extraordinarily gifted artist. One of the beauties of many Tom Waits songs is that the melodies and lyrics can be easily adapted to various styles and interpretations. I mean, even Tony Bennett could nail this song as well, if he wanted to!

@Fipp1000 I like how you two are being so lovely to each other, having a normal conversation on youtube is rare! It's nice to see! =)

Beautiful cover
Not bad but Tom Waits version is much better!

@Fipp1000 That goes without saying - no one sings Waits better than Waits.

@kaarekjohnsen Ok, for sure that's right. Tom Waits is a man of genius. But there are artists who covered Waits songs in a better way then Solveig Slettahjell. For example there's a great version of "Long Way Home" by Norah Jones and an astonishing great version of "Jockey Full of Bourbon" by Joe Bonamassa. So I think this version of "Take it with me" is good but it doesn't even compare to other covers of Waits songs too.

@Fipp1000 I agree, and I hope you didn't think that I was criticizing you. "The Long Way Home" with Norah Jones is great! I also think that Alison Krauss' version of "Trampled Rose" is very good. I haven't heard Joe Bonamassa (but I'll check it out).

@kaarekjohnsen No I didn't take that as critizism. I think I just wanted to explain my opinion about this song (maybe I just wanted to chat a bit ;))...
I never heard about Alison Krauss I gonna check out this.

@Fipp1000 So then we both learned about some music we didn't know before - good! (I liked Joe Bonamassa.)
