I think Pat Hitchcock played `Caroline` in `Psycho` as well, if not better, than any other actor would have. If not, her father wouldn`t have suggested the part to her. I`m sure.
Yeah. I guess since she was always in her father's shadow that she would want to act or something. She is pretty much all we have left when it comes to having Hitch around, you know? I guess being on screen with someone like Janet Leigh could make alot of people look like they can't act, because Janet was amazing. At least Pat got her place in movie history somehow, even if people don't like her acting. Kudos though...for at least a constructive comment instead of just saying that she sucked.
I'm glad that you enjoyed her performances, and I'm glad there are different opinions. I felt that her performances were extremely self-conscious and over-practiced and, therefore, unnatural. No subtlety, never a tiny hesitation; even facial expressions seemed to have been rehearsed repeatedly in front of a mirror. The kind of acting that might be better suited for the stage. I think she would have had roles in other films if she had been much admired, because she certainly wanted to act.
I am a buff of Psycho and several other Hitchcock films and never really thought she did THAT bad. You're making her out to sound like the worst. I definately disagree.
When I first saw this film I couldn't believe the terrible acting of this character in a film that was filled with superb performances. Then I looked at the credits and saw that it was Hitchcock's daughter and I understood. She had absolutely no acting talent but daddy gave her a couple of bit parts in his films. Her bit part in Psycho was equally bad, and stood out as a pitiful performance among several excellent ones. Poor thing. She "always wanted to be an actress" but had no talent.
Thanks for sharing this.

In the book Guy Hains actually killed Bruno's father. Hitchcock changed it to happy end.
