Italian music (chords, melody) were used in many other styles in the early 80's a lot of music was produced by italian producers and studiomusicians, high fashion is an example.
nowadays a lot of ballads (also r&b) are based on a mixture of jazz/itallo pop chord progressions, in the early years there were singers like frank sinatra, dean martin, elvis etc that also used italian songs.

the italian r&b producers in the early 80s, was very much underrated, but silent and deadly in my opinion.....am now learning that many of those hot r&b tracks was produced by italians.....!!!!!
