I am a longtime ELO fan and I really enjoyed the show, so I want to help promote this musical. Currently at the Drury Lane Theater, Water Tower Place. This is on North Michigan Avenue next to the John Hancock Building. Parking available next door and public transportation is a very short walk away.
The play is loosely based upon the 1980's movie featuring Olivia Newton John, Gene Kelly and the music of the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). While the movie was generally considered worse than bad, it has taken on a new life due to the hit music. Realizing this, the play has kept some of the movie elements, mostly in a satirical manner, and have focused on a new dialogue that allows the music to shine. With the addition of some new (old ) songs (Evil Woman, Have You Never Been Mellow, Strange Magic), the plays is a solid 90 minutes of fun and laughs.
The show will only be in Chicago until the end of March, after that?, well I hope that it travels on to other cities and spreads the Magic.
Songs in the show:
I"m Alive
Magic
Evil Woman
Suddenly
Whenever You're Away From Me
Dancin
Strange Magic
All Over The World
Don't Walk Away
Fool
The Fall
Suspended In Time
Have You Never Been Mellow?
Xanadu
If you can make it to Chicago, call the Drury Lane Theater at Water Tower Place and get some tickets. Ask about stage seating. With stage seating you can see and hear the show close up and be part of the show too!!!
