gunsandbullhorns, youre right. Those damn socialist brought an end to child labor. Instead, they make children get an education. They give old people social security, the old age protection the corporations refused to do. They brought an end to private police forces brutally beating factory workers into submission and forcing them back to work for 12-18 hours a day, 7 days a week. Modern socialism tries to restore the balance that agrarian capitalism had prior to the industrial revolution.

Socialism isn't an American ideal.

Socialism is a plague that's been eating away at America for the last hundred years or so.

All men CREATED equal does not mean redistribution of property in order to create "equality".

Free-market ideals are about self-determination, liberty & private-property. NOT "generosity". It's an individual's decision whether or not to be generous. FORCING someone to share their wealth is called "theft".

Forcing someone to share THEIR wealth? The management of a factory decides to disproportionately distribute the wealth that the factory workers produced; the management keeps an excess for their own. So, they already embezzled from the workers. How is redistributing inappropriately obtained excesses theft?

Exactly. Its a contradiction. People are already 'forced' to share their wealth through the tax contribution. Its what makes us civilised.

You are created equally, as all people are concieved in the same way. But a child born into poverty is not equal to someone born into wealth.

We are created equal because we were concieved in the same way? So you're saying that we were created equal to dogs, cats, monkeys, and all other mammals. Arguing "equality" in the conception process as opposed to socio-economic and access to opportunities equality is simply a rhetorical device to deny social inequality and social injustice.

Socialism strives towards American ideals of equality, which was lost during the Industrial Revolution. Socialism strives to return American ideals back to their original intent. WEALTH redistribution ensures all households are socio-ecconomically equal so all children have equal opportunities. "TO form a more perfect union" does refer to creating a utopia. Generosity is a Bohemian Utopian quality. Again, socialism tries to return capitalism back to its original intent.

@StrayGator Some people are born without limbs. Are they 'equal' to you? Be serious. No one is 'equal' because we construct societies and groups that favors certain talents and capabilities over others. That doesn't mean I want any harm done to the less capable but the belief that people are created equal is delusional, feels nice and I wish it where true but nature is cruel. We need to build a society that can actually fix problems, not further them.

As much as I admire the whole Socialist Cause, it is NOT an American Ideal. IT is a German Ideal shared with the world through the brilliance of Marx.

If everyone is equal why do we need people like you coloring outside the lines? None of us are equal if you are going to play that game. We all have different talents. No one is the same. What a boring world it would be. Suppose everyone was equally dumb then we could all be happy being instructed by the government when to eat, drink, sleep, use the toilet, etc....got the picture? Socialism isn't about being equal because it has rulers in authority pointing out what is wrong. What a load of BS!

No socialist system can be established without a political police. Many of those who are advocating socialism or voting socialist today will be horrified at this idea. That is because they are short sighted. That is because they do not see where their theories are leading them. No socialist government, conducting the entire life and industry of the country, could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently worded expression of public discontent. It would have to fall back on some form of Gestapo.
