Harvest sunflowers for freshly cut flowers once the petals have arched up. For sunflower seeds, wait until the flower has bloomed and the seeds look like normal sunflower seeds. Find out how to dry or bake sunflower seeds with advice from a sustainable gardener in this free video on gardening.

  • Thanks for posting this .. my daughter and I love our sunflowers .. we are new at this and they have turned out beautiful ... i have been wondering how to harvest them .. one question though .. do I let them dry if I want to replant them.

  • great video

  • Question: My sunflower is already drooping downward (its a mamotth sunflower) and I tried to pull on one of the seeds but the flower attached to the seed just came off. Should I let it stay drooping downward or cut it off and dry it already, for the seeds? Or is it drooping downward because it's such a big heavy flower?

  • Awesome! Glad this is on youtube!

  • Just what I needed to know. Thanks.
