#45 - Most Discussed (Today), #90 - Top Rated (Today) - Music.
I just wrote the lyric and added some synth' harmonies to this one - I DON'T SING AT ALL. The music was composed by B.B.C. T.V talent show runner-up, Ed Hintze, who also played keyboard and sang. http://www.youtube.com/edzeltoncouk
Of all our collaborations this is, perhaps, my favourite . . . and the one I'd most like to see in the charts or covered by mainstream artists. The lyric was created from a few half-completed verses I wrote in 2008. I finally e-mailed the finished lyric to Ed in April 2009 & he came back with this great 'demo' within 24 hours ! It's a genuine first 'demo', so there are some mistakes with lyrics and a glitch where an unwanted vocal comes in. I couldn't get rid of it so I just dipped the level briefly. Ed is unlikely to find the time to re-record and I was eager to share his great vocal with you all. It's also flippin cold in the U.K. and I wanted to warm myself up with a song about somewhere hot =]
I lived most of my life in the flat U.K. farmlands of East Anglia. Red moons were pretty common in the Autumn, when dust-storms created a red haze. In the Autumn of 2008, when I wrote this lyric, I had also seen my first 'flipped ' rainbow. Weird!
Also on my mind, at the time, was the fact that largest demographics on YouTube are for the 13-17 yr olds and the 55+ groups. I was struck by the fact that on YT 17 and 57 yr olds can chat quite happily. This doesn't happen in the 'real ' world unless you teach ( as I used to do).
I took this idea and, from it, built a story of an older guy who has a meeting of minds with a younger woman ( or vice-versa). I didn't have any particular location in mind, but Ed's treatment places it firmly in some searingly-hot U.S. desert.
I departed from my usual 'literal' style and let the ideas come from my subconscious. There are some strange lines, but they seem to hold meaning for me - so I'm sure they will for you, too
So . .maybe an older guy meets a younger girl at a desert truck stop and they get to talking. Outside the sky is going crazy, with a red moon and a flipped rainbow! Is it a sign of the end of the world, or has the guy had too much peyote?
Do our two characters turn a chance meeting into something more - or do they just finish their coffee and continue on their way? That's for you to decide.
To be honest, the video doesn't add anything - but it is a visual medium so I thought I'd better make an effort. Much better, though, just to read the lyrics, listen to the music, and let your mind come up with the images. That's what I did.
This song means a lot to me . . . and I hope it'll mean something very special to you, too =]

Midnight On The Sun - Words & Music © Fretwell & Hintze 2008/9
There was a red moon in September
And the rainbows flipped-around
Now they pointed up to Heaven
Instead of to the ground
I need lovin' without chains, you said.
- Cos you're a freedom-loving girl -
Young lovers, with their eyes wide-shut,
Couldn't put you in a whirl!
Its Midnight on the Sun, you sang,
But it's still as hot as Hell!
Changes are a-coming
But nobody can tell . . .
(I) need a sense of adventure,
A song that doesn't rhyme . .
'Cos these last-days of September
Are like the darkest eyes of Time !
Loving long
Love is strong . .
It's poetry in motion
A tale of true devotion
'Find some happiness . .with you
I'm seventeen from the end, I said,
You're seventeen from the start.
It don't mean we can't be good friends . .
Don't mean that we must part.
(I guess) . . . if life is lived in tea-cups,
Then, I've nearly drunk my fill
Time is rushing past me
When, . . .for you . . . it's standing-still
Loving long
Love is strong . .
It's poetry in motion
A tale of true devotion
'Find some happiness . . .with you
But . . .every day's a Blessing
Dont know how long they'll last
Today's another gift from God
So, lets live it . . .
Live it . . .'til it has passed
Loving long
Love is strong . .
It's poetry in motion
A tale of true devotion
'Find some happiness . . .with you
(repeat refrain)

@efbeckley Thx, man :] I listened to it on headphones, yesterday, and I was quite surprised! I think YouTube improved audio when they did the last re-vamp. It didn't used to sound this good. lol
