  • how do you field the alternator?

  • @goyherder, i have to start spinning very fast to excite the alternator, so it start working, and then i can continue pedaling slower.

If you want the alternator start working without having to spin so fast at the beginning, you can use a 12V battery to excite the rotor when you start pedaling.

  • Do yo have a web page where I can find the diagrams of your generator? could I charge a 12 V battery?

  • ULE13, you can watch some detailed photos of my latest design, in world wide web * verdesypobres * org. It's in spanish, but yo can find the thread going to "Foro", "Energía y Transporte", and there click in "Bici con generador electrico". The main photos are in pages 6 and 7.

Yes, the easier use of this is for charging 12V batteries, that there isn't in the video, only to show that i produce the energy, not from the stored energy of a battery.

  • Please use your device to charge up a Taser so we can MAKE THAT DOG SHUT UP!

But all joking aside, your contraption is very interesting. I wonder if it's possible to mount the alternator and other equipment onto the bike itself and then use a double-sided sprocket (and of course 2 chains). That way, the bike can still be used for riding.

  • You could mount the generator over the wheel, and touching the tire, like the little dynamos used in usual bikes. It's very easy and cheap with a rubber over the pulley.

It could be very useful to recover the braking energy with an electric heater in winter, or a very powerful light in the night.
