Here's a home built solar tracker I made for heating the swimming pool. It uses 115VAC to drive two low amp. 90VDC variable speed motor controllers that are interfaced to an interval timer system. The motors are double and triple gear reduced to produce slow speed positioning with tremendous torque. Pool filter pump pushes water through the 1.5" PVC pipes in the panel and pump cycle is also interval timed to allow heat transfer to the water in the pipes. Because summer in Vermont is only about 3 months long and this system will be dormant for the remainder of the year, The Solar Tracker-inator was built with a goal of keeping cost down.....many components were junkyard finds or industrial surplus (via ebay).

  • Sounds like it would work. It is amazing how hot the water is on a sunny day. Happy hunting.

  • Lovely, i'm cheap and lazy but love warm water here in Pa and I just use 1500ft of black garden hose on top of the cabana that has a black roof and is 40x12, if I had your skills with the tracking I would source a junkyard satellite dish from the 80's cover it with mylar and aim it at a heat exchager , but yours is awesome
