@soren476 I found myself answering "NO!"

I actually don't think that he over darkens. In fact I think he is very brave to sing in the way he sings considering so many basses have done as you have said in the past. Of course there are many dark moments but I think he uses them as he does his other traits, as vocal colour. Anyway I am singing with him in the Summer so I will let you know if he is too dark!!

@serenade00007 Erwin Schrott is a BARITONE. Not a bass!

Dopo Giaiotti e finita ...

ALL bass-baritones of this generation have been tainted by Samuel Ramey's over-darkening, which means Most of them are imitators, Ferrucio no exception. If you don't hear it yourself, keep listening for it and asking yourself, "Is he over-darkening?" And you will find yourself answering yourself "YES!"

@soren476 you clearly don't know the difference between american bass baritone and german bass baritone. American bassbaritone is aka basso cantante, singing bass while german is a helden baritone. Basso cantante is of course darker and has warmer color while heldenbaritone sounds harsh, nasal and more trumpet-like. I agree ramey could've been a baritone, but you have to consider that he sung in met. Not many singers can sing verdi in met and be audible.
