Gay and bisexual youth are vulnerable to hate speech, because they lack the support found in traditional communities. Most queer youth have straight parents, who are not sure how to help raise a gay or bisexual child. In many towns and cities, there are no community facilities - community centers, churches, or out neighbors who can help a gay or bisexual youth understand how to cope with hate speech or discrimination, or to help affirm a person's skills, and identity.

  • Looka here, it doesn't have to be 'gay' this and 'gay' that . That's like in the thirties with the 'White only' bars and restaurants and stuff. The way forward is to abolish this 'gay' this and 'gay' that/ straight this, straight that. It's a matter of getting used to really. There should be more Universal places and events where your sexual orientation isn't the basis of whether you're invited or not.

  • @moodaysasolstice Thank you for the post. You make interesting points. One of the good things that came out of the American civil rights movement was attempts to desegregate the schools, so schools were not either almost exclusively white or almost exclusively black. One of the reasons was to make more educational equality, because the mainly white schools seemed to offer better quality programs. The other reason was to help promote interracial contact, which helps reduce racism.

  • what about hate speech toward bisexuals from gay people????

  • @HerrSpieldose I am opposed to all hate speech. Unfortunately, I have heard a few negative comments from gay people about bisexuals. I don't think their comments were into the area of hate speech.

    Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • The lack of services mentioned in this vid has literally made the internet a life saver for so many gay individuals. :)

  • @clay56 Very good point. There are very few services for many gay people, especially those who live in rural areas. For isolated sexual minorities, the internet is a real savior.

Thank you for watching and commenting. :-)

  • I object to the use of word -hate- with this pejorative connotation. It's offensive and demeaning to people with the surnames Hait or Hayte. Why are people constantly using -hate- in a negative context, what are they trying to imply? I -hate- global warming, Pasture -hated- smallpox so he did something about it.

  • I completely agree. All hate is equally bad. But I'm glad you made some points as to why LGBTQ hate hits a little closer to home a little more easily.

    Thanks again!

  • And I mean getting used to in the sense that straights have to get used to being around gays and conversely

  • His account is closed. I find it interesting how many people who make posts like his end up with closed accounts. I suspect some of them reappear with different names.

  • I think the guy was just a troll.

  • Thanks for watching and commenting. I've done a little research and ran into an interesting periodical article. The study gave one the sense that of the youth surveyed the questioning youth were much more at risk than either gay or straight youth to homophobic bullying.
