I'm in blue first, then yellow...

A bit boring to watch actually.

I had four main goals going into this fight;

a) use the sticky hand to control my opponents hands to prevent just trading punches with him
b) control the distance at which the action took place
c) control the space on the platform
d) control the time by controlling the pace of the fight was well as taking my time about returning to my line, etc.

I think technically I succeeded in achieving these goals, but overall I'm fairly unhappy with my performance here.

Last year I was unhappy with how I kept getting stuck in the clinch and be optionless besides a crappy guillotine, so I spent a lot of time working on what in I Liq Chuan we call the "third section" (basically grappling range). I actually spent too much time on that range and as a result my rhythm really suffered, as well as my striking.

As I stated earlier I wanted to control my opponents hands with the "sticky hand", drop my him several times to knock the wind out of him and break his spirit and then try to knock him out near the end of the round when I noticed him start to get soft.

Unfortunately, the rounds just went by too fast and my opponent never softened up (despite several hard shuai 摔), so I never even got to start striking.

And that's besides all the mistakes I made from a purely I Liq Chuan perspective.
But it was a good learning experience.

  • Oppp...I'm 82kg and U look so big on stage ya!

    Recently I was uplifted by a 120kg in PH, keeping a distance is the way and once i get too close & touch him, he just swing me 180deg up rooted me like a hydrolic arm...real effortless.

    U did well! Congrat!

  • i hope so! i'm already training...

  • Be kind with yourself :-) Next time will be even better ;-)

  • thanks! however, there were certain things i wanted to see myself do in this match (like maintain the "13 points" (i lose my suspension of the crown), better "absorb & project" (would really help my footwork)and more "open & close". they're all some pretty key elements of I Liq Chuan, and so all in all i'm not as happy with my win as i might otherwise be.

  • Well, the time you ve spent on the "third section" wasn't wasted :-)
