The Soviet animation of 1950's—1960's is amazing: smooth, detailed, realistic. Almost every animated film was a masterpiece (especially given the poor technology of the time).

Boy do I remember this!
Soyuz loved their rotoscope!
I wish the whole film was here!

The irony of it all! I remembered The Space Explorers when I was a kid, promoting the US space race, but never realized that it was cobbled together from Communist Russian and Nazi films

Fascinating. Was this the entire film or just excerpts? Some of the exterior spaceship shots seem to use models with painted backgrounds, like the Fleischers used to do.

The entire film is 29 minutes, so these are just some clips someone told me about. Some of these scenes end up in The Space Explorers cartoon short film.
