Clockwise run around Zack's Castle bed built 6' off the floor with 5 levels of train tracks. Almost everything was scratch built out of anything that we could find laying around the house, yard or barn. The kids toy boxes were not off limits as they had to go to school. The train goes through the walls of the house above the doors and windows from Zack.s bed to his sisters Jessie's tree house bed.
To be able to accomplish this it had to run through the hallways, stairwell, dining room and even the bathroom. Each bedroom has it's own layout operated by them and the mainline is operated my mother via a hand held remote.
You can see the glowing red atomic mine with it's crew setting off the fireworks after they broke into a big plutonium chamber. The Alien streetcar line winds it's way by the mine around and through the bathroom up to the Spook Mountain stop.
The trestles & bridges were handmade using old cedar.
I used a step-less drill bit along with an old crank school pencil sharpener to taper the piles. This way is fast and strong as it is a tight fit and no glue time needed.
The bracing was held fastened with a 23 gauge pin nailer.
The bridge arches needed a major glue-up out of 3/32" cedar strips.
Real rocks, real plants, moss, weeds, cardboard and plastic were used.
I took 3 to 4 months worth of work to build this "O" scale layout mostly 7" above the floor.
The cat is still trying to catch the train when I run the glowing AEC atomic gondola cars at night.
