In an oasis of calm, far, far away from the tumult of excitement that was leading up to the premiere of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Bill Moyers joined George Lucas at Skywalker Ranch in northern California to talk about the ancient myths and personal values that have synthesized into Star Wars.

The epic themes in Lucas' cinematic stories are a springboard for a candid conversation about family, fatherhood, spiritual beliefs, and the importance of moral tales for every generation. Intercut with movie footage from the original trilogy as well as the newly-released prequel, The Mythology of Star Wars with George Lucas and Bill Moyers provides a revealing journey in the company of the filmmaker through some of the most famous scenes of the Star Wars saga.

About Bill Moyers: Bill was the interviewer of Joseph Campbell in The Power of Myth and George Lucas was a protege of Joseph Campbell.

  • if there's only one God then why are there so many religions?

They all see a different part of the elephant ...

very nice to put it like that =D

  • @501stlegionnaire That was a very ignorant thing to say on your part and his. There's not always just one God. Not to mention that some religions don't even focus on a god, or gods, or even worship for that matter.

Religion literally means: that which brings people together. It's only logical that some of them (i.e. Buddhism) would be completely different, and in some cases, opposite to the western religion-concepts that you currently know of .

  • @abadeizer And in turn you sound much more ignorant, how ironic is that? I myself believe there are multiple gods and goddesses and in Buddhism, but all religions are one, so with that in mind you can't dismiss Lucas's words for they absolutely right. It is just part of the elephant.
