yea I add the light and it still doesn't light the particles? i am using a spot light, made the particle layer 3d and did everything exactly like you did

The resulting smoke takes certain properties from the music, like the number of particles per second and the Y position. So if you are not using the same music you would get different results. If you are using a different music you have to tweak these settings a bit to fit your music. Particular has a lot of variables and every little change can affect the results you get.
