well you dont have to be retarded to lose hearing. i just use earbuds but sometimes its enough to do it. you know you're losing a bit of hearing if you hear that metallic buzzing in the aftermath. it because hairs far inside the ear past the eardrum are breaking off, and are irreplacable. this is why the elderly have some hearing problems.
