The Federal Highway Administration, the California Department of Transportation and Plumas County Public Works Department jointly put on a paving demonstration Sept. 23, 2010 of a sloped "safety edge" for asphalt pavement. The event took place on Grizzly Road, a county road that was scheduled to be resurfaced. The sloped pavement edge is designed to reduce traffic accidents caused by vehicles that loose control when moving from a paved road to an unpaved surface and then back again. The demonstration was co-sponsored by the California Asphalt Pavement Association.
