My Grandma used to always play Don Mclean stuff and this song stuck in my mind.

I did''nt think of the words,I thought of castles,knights and ramparts,etc..lol !!

Silly boy was I.

I aint heard it for ages and now I finally get it!!About a unhappy love that was all just ''Pie in the sky'' or ""castles in the air''!!

I prefer the country life too,Don,and I cannot abide ''game playing''in relationships.Too exhausting!!

As I listen to Don McLean and others of his time I realize two things: Their music was far, far superior to what we have smearing our ariwaves today. Finally, I grew up twenty years too late.  I missed my generation...

@atyourserviceable The original version is the opener from his album "Tapestry" (1970)...this version of the song was re-recorded by Don McLean and is the opener from his album "Believers" (1981)

Sometime I wonder how can today kids be able to enjoy this kind of music when they were into these Hip Hop and Rap music. Recently , there was a shooting in Brooklyn, Brownsville black neighborhood and black leaders came out telling their people to stop the violence. They should tell their kids not to listen to Rap music.

this is not the original version from tapestry although that's where the song is from, just not this version, the tapestry version is quicker and there's more finger picking guitar work.
