http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falaknuma_Palace was built in the late 1800s by the Nizam (ruler of Hyderabad State). The Taj Hotel group spent 10 years restoring it and it opened as a hotel in 11/2010. We drove up to the entrance gate, got scanned by the security folks, and then climbed into the 8 passenger electric cart and were driven (this video) to the main buildings. If you are a guest in the hotel, you use a horse-drawn carriage instead. We had a lovely 3 hour Indian lunch (my best meal in India) followed by a very thorough 2 hour tour (including the over-the-top Nizam Suite).
