A famous song done with a twist. She shouts "OK!" and begins an up-tempo verse. In other words, "After you've gone", I am going to party. Very funny! Leave it to Brenda to come up with a unique interpretation. There are many fast versions of the song, but can't recall a vocalist having this attitude. Clip has some missing frames and audio dropouts. After some manipulation, I was able to sync the audio. Its worth preserving because she did not record this tune.

Original recording was Marion Harris (1918). There followed seemingly hundreds of covers. Among them were Django Reinhardt (1934), Judy Garland (1936 14 yrs old!), Louis Armstrong (1929), Fats Waller (1930), Bessie Smith (1927), Paul Whiteman (1930), Benny Goodman (1935) and Lionel Hampton (1937).

Song by Turner Layton, with lyrics by Henry Creamer (1918).

Lyrics as sung by Brenda Lee

After you've gone and left me crying,
After you've gone there's no denying,
You'll feel bluer, you'll feel so sad,
You'll miss the best pal that you ever had.
There'll come a time, now don't you forget it,
There'll come a time when you'll regret it.

Some day when you grow lonely,
Your heart will break like mine and you'll want me only,
After you've gone, after you've gone away

After you've gone and you left me crying,
Yeah, after you've gone there's no denying,
You'll feel bluer, you're gonna feel so sad,
You're gonna miss the best pal you ever had.
There'll come a time, don't you forget it,
There'll come a time when you'll regret it.

Some day when you grow lonely,
Your heart will break like mine and you'll want me only,
After you've gone, after you've gone away

  • She's not very big is she ? Big powerful voice for what appears to be a small person.

  • @wilburhog Brenda is only 4' 9", but with perfect breath control. Still, how she manages to process a large amount of air through her tiny body is a mystery.
