~*~PLEASE COMMENT!~*~ BLAZING HOT RAILFANNING ACTION ON 10/28/2009!
I was crossing the CSX New Rock Sub in Joliet and saw a headlight approaching. As it got closer, I heard over the scanner that it was the J747 Rockdale Job returning from Channahon, where it was switching out the refinery. CSXT GP15T's 1512 and 1511 are in charge of the three car local today. The train is entering Rockdale Yard Limits.
Next, I drove into Wilmington, searching around for the UP local. After a while of no luck, I heard "set and centered" on the scanner, which gave me a good idea that he was near. From IL-53, I could see the train switching out a local industry in town. I set up and he thundered through moments later. What a great sound! Three Geeps, UP GP40-2's 1501 and 1354 sandwiching GMTX GP38AC 2163, pick up speed northbound as it highballs for Joliet. Run 8 with that horn blaring!
I then set up for the return trip. The UP Local went north into Joliet, turned the train around and then headed south for Bloomington. The train stopped short of this crossing to receive a track warrant before proceeding. As soon as the engineer received the warrant, he didn't waste any time hitting that throttle. It was run 8 in no time. Filmed in between Elwood and Joliet. Does The Blue's Brothers come to mind? :)
The UP local then had to go into the siding in Elwood, to allow a maintainer to clear. I set up at a crossing just off of IL-53. The train is rolling right along, preparing to switch another local industry (in about two miles) for about fiftteen minutes.
After finishing up its work, the UP local is moving right along through Wilmington, with its four car train. Now, it's off to Bloomington, non-stop, with nothing in its way! It's nice to be able to see a daylight freight on the UP Joliet Sub.
After the UP local, Coal City and the BNSF Chilli Sub were only five miles away, so I figured I'd pay a visit. A green signal was lined up when I arrived. An eastbound train appeared and it was a baretable train, powered by BNSF Dash 9's 4598 and Warbonnet 700.
Next up was a westbound stack train, powered by BNSF Dash 9's 5420, 4839 and 4519.
The trains keep on a coming as an eastbound mix of stacks and autoracks rolls through, powered by BNSF Dash 9's 4503 and 5285.
Next up is the train I wanted to catch the day before, but it didn't run. Today, however, it did. The westbound L CHI102 rolls through town, powered by BNSF B40-8W's, two BN White Faces (GP39E 2903 and GP38-2 2108) and a BNSF GP38-2. It sounded like only the first two units were online, so this might be a power move for the Geeps to Galesburg.
Next up was the second eastbound baretable of the day. This one had piggyback flatcars on each car. Interesting. A solo BNSF Dash 9 is in charge.
They keep rolling through as a westbound Z train passes through town, powered by a BNSF ES44DC, a Santa Fe Warbonnet Dash 9 and a pair of BNSF Dash 9's.
Next up is the eastbound, Q FTMCOL stack train. A pair of NS C40-9W's are rolling along with only thirty-five cars. Short train today.
Darkness is quickly falling and the rain (that stayed in the area for a good portion of the day) is falling as well. The M GALGYI heads east through town, powered by a BNSF ES44DC and a BNSF Dash 9. He was throttling up from a stop outside of town.
Thank you very much for watching!
Great job! Always enjoy the videos
