"CBS News RAW:" Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has appointed former Attorney General Roland Burris to the Senate. Blagojevich asked that the scandalous allegations against him not taint Burris.
Charges: 24 federal counts related to misusing his powers as governor to extort campaign contributions from those seeking legislation, appointments or other favors
This Blagojevich character has to be the biggest idiot Governor I've ever seen.
Why do elected official NEVER resign anymore? Do you think if Richard Nixon could have time-traveled to this era, and then gone back to the beginning of August, 1974, he would still resign?
Methinks not.
I think perhaps the Clinton/Monica thing showed us that ultimately, you DON'T have to answer to the public anymore.
You are assuming that I am assuming that, and I am not assuming that at all.
If the appointment can not be reversed if he IS found guilty, Congress should not allow it. If it were reversable with a conviction, then I would say, allow it.
Congress has to act in the best interest of the people. Thatn is what they are doing and I applaude that effort.
It has nothing to do with any of the other outside BS you want to make it.
Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill). If people want black persons in Congress, some must run, and they can be voted in by the people, just like we voted for Barak Obama for President.
There is nothing stopping black people from running and getting votes. It worked for Obama for Senate and for President.
You can't manufacture a crisis or play the race card to get what you want. You have to do things the right way.
You just don't get it. Blagojevich is governor. Until he is NOT governor, he has a legal obligation to carry out his duties. One of those many duties is to make this appointment. You're assuming he's guilty. You're ignoring the presumption of innocence. Again, you can argue all you want, but it's the LAW. If you don't like it, lobby to change the law.
flum:"it will certainly be in direct conflict with the presumption of innocence"
It has nothing to do with that at all. The office is under investigation for a reason. There is a charge of criminal activity. It would be equally criminal for the Congress to allow any appointment that could not be undone by a verdict of guilt.
If the verdict of guilt could undo the appointment, I would say, "Let it go", but if not, Congress has to protect the people.
Blago you suck....

I really am saddened by this reality. :(

"overthinking"? Who's using race to get what they want? You're the one going on and on about race. Race has no merit in this case.
You can call the FACT that Congress is lacking in diversity bullshit, but if you look at the demographics, they don't lie.
I think it's funny how you call facts that don't support your ideas, "Bullshit".
You remind me of a small child who stammers with their fists clenched when they don't get their way.
