I initially created this video for my Summer School English III class, as a memoir project.

I did it in a hurry, so many things were not as I liked them, and I wanted to add a bit more.

So, here is the project fully realized, as I had envisioned it.

  • So, the band you recorded @4:30, sounds just like many high-school band recordings I collect on vinyl from the 50s to the early 80's. Your recording sounds nice, no real close-mic'ing, it sounds like 2 mics only? A possible 3rd room mic? Good job anyways. there seems to be a weird pre clip (like a square shaped noise gate) before each bass hit. Is that the way it was recorded, or is that a digital fault? The band really starts smoking, but the drummer has bad timing in parts. Great hobby eh?

  • @oatstao read down a bit....I know I used 5 or 6 mics but if I remember correctly, I only really used three that were audible. Any weird digitalness is probably from layers of digital compression from when I did not know how to master audio for YT. It's a high school band, whaddya expect?

  • Dude, you need to go with better quality turn tables. Check out the Rega Planar turntables from British company Rega. I got my Rega Planar 3 belt drive, glass platter turntable back in early 80's. I'm still using that turntable today.

The Moody Blues albums I have from those days sound much richer and more textured than the CD's and iTunes download digital formats. Plus there's nothing comparable to the old album art work and liner notes.

  • @TheSulross

I currently have a Lenco L75/Shure V15III and Dual 1229/Audio Technica AT15S in service. ProJect Xpression III/Denon DL-110 that I need to do something with. I want a nice Technics SP series or SL1200mk2/5. With all the expierence I've had with belt drives, I prefer to stay away from them. Also, I'm broke right now, so I think most upgrades will have to be found. I AM, however, working on a decent HT system. I'll make an updated version of this soon. Lotsa new stuff to show off.

  • @turntablesrock way to go man! I love it when the younger generation actually get the Analog Sound. The L75 is a superb table as is the 1229 (I have one myself), all it needs is a solid plinth, tonearm rewire, and gimbal bearings and you'll have a world class table for little coin.

  • @turntablesrock Hi Dave, I really enjoyed your video and admire your passion for music. I guess my thing at the moment is finishing my system, so I can see why Mike would not find a common thread. He's way over components as you said. One day perhaps when I have a big vinyl collection? Btw, if you're on FB, would love to add you as a friend :) Regards, David.

  • @melbguy1 I can't say that I've heard any of that in person, but I would love to at some point. I don't really have any real money to invest in my stuff...between my TT and pre I have about $125 invested. I've spent more, but that's the stuff that stayed. As far as I'm concerned, Mikey isn't so much a gear snob as he likes people who are passionate about the hobby, regardless of what gear they might have. I dunno why your comments are being marked as spam and removed...some people are dicks.

  • @turntablesrock I guess I shouldn't lose heart, though I plan to wait a good while until i've got a more serious vinyl rig before I knock on Mike's door again. What are you going to do? Nice vinyl rig btw...my rig is currently a Transrotor Fat Bob Plus, SME-5009 arm, Miyajima Shilabe cart & Bladelius Heimdal phono stage. My phono cable is Jorma Origo xlr & tonearm cable is Crystal Micro xlr. I plan to upgrade to a Boulder 1008 phono & Helius tonearm later in the year however.

  • Wicked video man!

  • @turntablesrock - This video is from back in 2009, and no matter how good the audio was on your video, Youtube's old eq and compression algorithms were terrible. I remember posting videos and when I played them back on Youtube I was wondering where all the compression and digital artifacts came from.

You've owned some really amazing equipment and at 16 you were years ahead of your time. I hope you enjoy your continual trip through audiophile land.

  • :D that made me happy... I have that dead or alive single.. just played it on my Garrard turntable today..... :D

  • Final cut is apple, no? Not adobe?

  • @ITSAPANTS GO FOR IT.

This video pretty much explains my path....I've advanced a lot since I created this though, my best advice is try and find opportunities that give you a chance to mess up a few times where it's non critical. Also, LISTEN.
